With experience in biomedical and behavior research collaborations I desire to help move cancer research forward though collaboration. I am especially interested in the childhood cancer research space where there is an important need to improve the lives of children and their families.

Principal: T.J. Koerner
T.J. Koerner, PhD, has held the role of Managing Director of Extramural Research for the American Cancer Society. This key leadership position for the Extramural Research Department provided critical oversight of the complex operations associated with application and grants management, data accessibility and integrity, research communications, and evaluations. While having oversight for key internal interactions with other Departments and Regions, he was also be responsible for operational management of external partnerships for Extramural Research. T.J. has been involved in research administration for over 30 years following his own efforts at the bench. A native of upstate New York, Dr. Koerner received his Bachelor of Science with honours at the University of Toronto. T.J. then earned his Ph.D. in Molecular and Developmental Biology at the University of Cincinnati. Following postdoctoral studies at Columbia University in New York, he joined the faculty at Duke University. His research interests included studying molecular mechanisms of regulation, specifically the immune response to cancer. He led the American Cancer Society’s adoption of an electronic review process and was instrumental in coordinating a number of research funding agencies to adopt a common system for online grants applications which now serves over 90 organizations. He was instrumental in the formation of the Health Research Alliance and served on its founding board. T.J. serves as a lead for the Pediatric Cancer Research partnership of ACS with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
